The Gibara Film Festival will be held next August

The 17th edition of the Gibara International Film Festival (FIC Gibara 2023) will take place next August in that eastern Cuban city and it will be possible to compete in the categories of fiction feature film and short film, documentary feature film and short film, animation and video art, organizers reported this Friday.

The event, convened for the first five days of that month by the Ministry of Culture, the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (Icaic), the Governments of that territory and the city of Gibara, it celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

Created by late filmmaker Humberto Solás, who "humbly materialized an ambitious dream, perhaps he could not imagine the dimension that it would take", adds the press release.

The materials to compete in this great film festival will be shown in the original language (subtitled in Spanish) with a completion date of 2021 to the present and the jury for each category will be made up of renowned national and international figures from cinema, audiovisuals and the arts, whose decisions will be final.

The admission period for the presentation of the works is open from January 15 until next May 15 and the winners will receive the Lucía award in addition to other awards and collateral mentions. More details of this important seventh art contest can be found on the Cubacine page, from ICAIC, and on the Facebook social network.
