The Industrial Company &&Aángel Villarreal Bravo", MINERVA, leader in e-commerce sales and in freely convertible currency stores (MLC) in Cuba, is betting on a sustainable future by marketing equipment with an ecological angle.
In statements to this magazine, the engineer Elier Pérez Pérez, its General Director, referred to the company’s work, which has been improving in recent times in favor of efficiency and competitiveness.
The executive reported that the company will produce some 10,000 electric bicycles this year, the highest figure recorded since incorporating this line in its business portfolio. These results, he explained, are the result of its integration into e-commerce, through payment gateways, and sales in the network of MLC stores of the Cimex and Caribe chains.
In 2020, MINERVA achieved 25 million pesos in total sales and more than four million in MLC for the sale of electric bicycles, tricycles and their spare parts, which places it at the head of e-commerce sales within the Superior Organization of Business Management of the Steelworking Industry (GESIME), he pointed out.
Currently, the executive added, MINERVA has three suppliers abroad, and is in the process of signing another contract, which will allow it to secure raw materials and close this year with total sales in excess of 150 million pesos, as well as higher income in MLC.
Regarding prospects for 2021, Pérez Pérez expressed that they foresee the recovery of mechanical bicycles, for their commercialization in MLC, as well as putting some spare parts on offer. They also intend to manufacture mechanical bicycles for the retail trade in Cuban pesos with the small profits obtained from sales in MLC.
MINERVA is currently working on several development projects in the testing phase, including five models of electric cargo and passenger tricycles, scheduled to be introduced in the market by the end of the year, and is also studying the possibility of producing two models of electric quadricycles, to be added to its business portfolio.
In addition, it is working on six models of electric bicycles, five of which are mopeds, including a small one, which is more maneuverable, lighter in weight and, like the others, will be powered by lithium batteries. In addition to this alternative, a contract for 13 million pesos was also signed, subject to financing, for the purchase of lithium batteries and chargers, he added.
Engineer David Rodríguez Seijas, Deputy Director of the organization, said that this year a new model of tricycle with cabin will be introduced: &It will be a tricycle with a cabin and a roof made with solar panels. The roof does not totally recharge the vehicle, but it does increase its autonomy by about 20 kilometers," he explained.
