Cuban researchers, visitors to the capital's Quinta de los Molinos and Russian marine expeditionaries will discuss today the Five Oceans project (2024-2026), which is currently visiting the largest of the Antilles.
In one of Havana's botanical gardens, converted into a scientific-cultural space, the expeditionaries will exchange stories about their trips to the most remote corners of the world, as well as their impressions of the cultures of different countries and their nature.
The main objective of this initiative is to emphasize the role of the ocean as a link to unite people, cultures and countries. The project began its journey last November in Tenerife, and after 20 days of transatlantic travel it reached the Caribbean in Saint Lucia, aboard the Atlantic Race Cruising.
In Cuba, it anchored in the central province of Cienfuegos on December 21, and after its stay in the Greater Antilles, it will continue its journey through the Caribbean and Latin America, and then, cross the Panama Canal in March.
Founded in 2021, the Five Oceans club is made up of a community of people who love the seas and oceans, who explore them and help science study the problems of these ecosystems in the world. Its stop in Cuba has the support of the Russian House of the Office of the Historian of Havana, the Russian embassy in this capital, the Cuban Environmental Agency, among other organizations.
