Cuba is preparing today for the 16th International Meeting on Criminal Sciences and the 4th Legality, Law, and Society 2025 Event, scheduled for March 26-28 at the Havana Convention Center.
According to its organizers, the biannual event, the oldest on the subject held in Latin America, will be attended by more than 350 national delegates and a yet-to-be-determined number of foreign participants. The chief prosecutor of the International Legal Cooperation Directorate of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), Patricia Rizo, announced at a press conference that prosecutors, general attorneys, comptrollers, ombudsmen, lawyers, and other professionals from related fields will be attending the event.
Rizo mentioned among the main topics of the Meeting the protection and fight against transnational organized crime, drug trafficking, money laundering, cybercrime, human trafficking, and corruption. She also highlighted the in-person and virtual participation of experts, academics, and law students from Russia, Belarus, Vietnam, Venezuela, Mozambique, Colombia, Spain, and Cuba, among other nations.
The agenda of the important meeting includes the signing of cooperation agreements between the parties aimed at exchanging experiences and knowledge on issues of common interest, and strengthening ties with counterparts from around twenty countries, the FGR official stated.
For his part, the chief prosecutor of the Training, Development, and Innovation Directorate of that agency, Dyxan Fuentes, commented that the program includes special interventions, presentations, and panels of high scientific rigor. According to the director of the National School of the Attorney General's Office (FGR), prior to the event, a pre-event workshop will be held on March 25th to address the challenges of criminal law related to various aspects.
Fuentes mentioned these topics include artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, the environment, discrimination and gender violence, as well as the control of economic activity, crime in national companies, and related legal advice. According to the director, the event will demonstrate the role of law and its professionals in Cuba's socialist society.
