Wherever the prominent Cuban designer Jacqueline Fumero, who passed away two years ago, may be, she can feel satisfied and happy knowing that her work will continue to live on in Alexandra Kopachkov, her daughter, who has decided to keep her mother’s name as a brand to honor her legacy.
“My mother was an extraordinary woman, and her passion and dedication in everything she did will be a permanent inspiration for me,” Alexandra said in an interview with this magazine.
Continuing the legacy that my mother built in Cuban fashion entails a great responsibility, and “taking it on has required drawing from that emotional bond that unites us,” she said, adding that “for me it is important to remain true to the essence of her brand and what it represents, expanding its reach and creating elegant and modern pieces that pay homage to our Latin style while always seeking the contemporary feel she embodied.”
Currently, the young designer is preparing her first collection, where each piece is inspired by the glamorous spirit of the Jacqueline Fumero brand, featuring some bolder and more contemporary silhouettes.
She has also incorporated versatile looks that will reflect a more casual luxury while always maintaining the brand’s elegant identity.
The collection, still without a completely defined name in honor of her mother, is aimed at women who, like her, reflect great “e!ortless elegance.”
“I believe that above all else, that is what Jacqueline Fumero represents for me as her daughter, but also for all who knew her: a woman elegant on every occasion.”
From a very young age, Alexandra was always connected to her mother’s work because, as she explained, she grew up among fabrics, models, and photographers; thus fashion has always been a fundamental part of her life. In fact, on many occasions she walked the runway for her mother as a model.
Regarding her future projects, she revealed that she is currently focused on opening Casa Fumero, a space that will host an exclusive selection of women’s fashion where she will also o!er made-to-measure garments with the idea of harking back to her mother’s beginnings as a designer when she welcomed clients into their home’s living room.
The boutique/atelier will also serve as a platform for other Cuban artists since it will feature eclectic accessories and handcrafted decor made by Cuban hands. “My aspirations are to continue growing the Jacqueline Fumero brand and for the house to become a destination in Havana to discover new names in the world of design in Cuba,” she finally stated.
